August 21st saw the return to Dublin of Dai-Sifu Rainer Tausend for a weekend of student and instructor seminars. The training started on Friday evening with the school owners taking private lessons from Sifu Tausend. Si-Hing Martin Krause (2nd TG) who runs the Finglas school spent the time training on the wooden dummy while Sifu Aidan Canavan and Si-Hing Michael O'Leary who run the Dublin City Centre and Blanchardstown schools respectively, spent time training both the long pole form and chi-sau.
The instructor seminar which took place in the Blanchardstown school the next day began with Sifu Tausend correcting the instructors performing their Siu-Nim-Tau and Chum-Kiu forms. He also answered in detail any questions that the instructors had. This was followed by practical examples of how to use coordination when performing WingTsun self-defence techniques. The concept of coordination is one of Si-Gung Kernspecht's "Big Seven" themes that define WingTsun. This is the idea that by using all parts of the body at once (eg. step, pak-sau & fak-sau), you will gain a synergistic effect where the whole is greater than the sum of the individual parts enabling you to deliver a very powerful strike. The rest of the day was spent with the participants training their individual programmes.
The student seminar took place on Sunday starting at 12.30pm. Again the seminar started with Sifu Tausend checking the students Siu-Nim-Tau and Chum-Kiu. He then expanded on the concept of "coordination" from the previous day and worked on many examples of this.
After the break students were tested on their respective programmes. Congratulations to the following students on being awarded their student grades (SG).
