Barry started Wing Tsun in the Blanchardstown school in May 2006 having trained for a short while in the 1980s. He received his 7th student grade in August 2010 and was offered the opportunity to begin his training towards becoming an assistant instructor. This involved attending additional bi-weekly instructor classes with Si-Hing Michael O'Leary and instructor seminars with Dai-Sifu Rainer Tausend. On April 3rd 2011 Barry was awarded his 8th student grade and instructor t-shirt and initially worked as an assistant instructor in the Blanchardstown school.
On Wednesday the 11th of April 2012, Barry opened his own school in Maynooth, Co. Kildare. While teaching his own classes he remains committed to his own training by taking private lessons with his instructor, Si-Hing Michael O'Leary as well as attending student and instructor classes and seminars. Barry passed his 10th student grade in April 2012 and is now working towards his 11th grade which involves defences against sticks and knives.
